\n<\/span>New Folder 01<\/em> is a collection of artworks by young Iranian photographers; the generation born in the 80’s, a generation to which I belong as well. Among these twelve photographers, there are those who have had group exhibitions before, and those who haven’t. In fact, in New Folder 01<\/em> (which hopefully will continue to numbers greater than 01) I decided to showcase remarkable series of works done by the new generation of promising Iranian photographers. Works that were only showcased in the university courses, or were abandoned on some hard disk.<\/p>\n

The presence of these photographers with diverse backgrounds and interests might seem rather confusing at first, but there are underlying objectives — respecting the artist and their personal genres, freedom to chose the subject\/presentation\/medium, and not imposing a certain theme to all the artworks — an effort to observe a generation’s artworks in one place (in the absence of a Photography Museum). Meanwhile, the diversity of the current selection is one of the characteristics of the works of this generation. A generation graced by digital photography growing number of photographers that struggles with a myriad through a charge in the process artistic creation is marred by a crisis of ideas and concepts.<\/p>\n

While selecting the works, I came across an interesting point; although young, this generation has a professional approach to photography: Writes artist statement, researches on their work, reads, bravely derives inspirations and has no shame to mention their inspirations.<\/p>\n

Seeing these young photographers’ works at Silk Road Gallery<\/em> is a promise of support from some of Tehran’s top ranking art galleries, for a generation that needs to be seen. My ambition is to open these New Folders<\/em> in a near future, and find names that take the future of their country’s photography in their own hands.<\/p>\n
